Toronto - As part of the annual TSE 300 revision, Standard & Poor's (the TSE 300 composite administrator), will be adding 15 companies to the TSE 300 composite, while removing 10 companies from the composite to balance out the additions. The "missing 5" from the drop list is due to previous changes to the listing which with the 10 dropped companies will balance out the 15 new additions.

What does this mean for investors? Simply put -- a lot. When changes are made to an index, securities products (such as index mutual funds) which track the index must buy into the new additions and sell their holdings of the dropped companies in order to match the index. So, between now and until the official change day the prices of these companies will be affected as investors and mutual fund managers readjust their portfolios to reflect the new changes. Word to the wise: Expect some fluctuations in the prices of the shares in these companies.
